Following the announcement of NDI 6, the coming update to our core technology, our team has been running a limited beta testing program with selected product developers from our ecosystem. As we prepare a public beta release of NDI 6, scheduled for Q1 2024, we are unveiling more details about the progress so far and what our partners have to say about this next step for NDI.
The testing process so far
For the past few months, we have been testing self-contained features of NDI 6 – namely support for HDR and improved remote connectivity. After internal testing and validation, we are advancing to the next stage: beta-testing the NDI 6 SDK.
Industry leaders Epiphan, Kiloview, Magewell, Matrox, and Vizrt are now working closely with the product and R&D teams at NDI to test the integration of the SDK within existing and new products.
Expected timeline for NDI 6 release
As testing progresses, we will be phasing in our releases to ensure we will provide stable SDKs and enable better connected experiences through our ecosystem of products.
For now, access to this first beta version of NDI 6 has been provided to selected partners. Before the end of Q1 2024, we are planning to release a public beta version, ready to be tested by our extended community of product developers upon request.
On the value of the NDI Beta program
Beta-testing our Core Technology with hardware developers enables early access to partners ready to integrate NDI for testing while providing valuable feedback to the R&D team. This iteration with external partners in the loop allows us to improve the overall effectiveness of the updated NDI SDK to support simple integration and an improved end-user experience with media workflows, including NDI-enabled products. The NDI Beta program, launched earlier this year, is the collaborative space where our community of product developers can put our tech to the test in products and contexts that are closer to real-world application scenarios.
This process allows developers to gain firsthand experience with the NDI core technology and provides an invaluable opportunity to gather feedback. Ultimately, NDI Beta helps set the stage for a robust, reliable, and universally adaptable technology that meets the evolving needs of many segments where NDI is being deployed.
The view from our beta testers
“We are primarily going to be targeting NDI 6 for a next-generation product that we are working on. Epiphan is excited about the ability to capture and decode much higher-quality video from NDI cameras. This is going to enable our customers to use our products to encode, record, and stream using much higher color depth than is currently possible, giving them greater flexibility in post-production by allowing for more accurate color grading and correction.”
Yusupha Touray, Director of Product, Epiphan
“NDI 6 represents an important evolution format, allowing Matrox to provide both Broadcast and Live Event industries with very interesting solutions to tackle on-prem and cloud-based video Infrastructure challenges.”
Dan Maloney, Technical Marketing Manager, Matrox
“We have received customers’ inquiries about support HDR in the past. So supporting 10 bits and HDR could greatly enhance our current NDI product line.”
Amy Zhou, Sales Director, Magewell
“Our strategy involves a dual approach. Existing products will receive updates to seamlessly support HDR, ensuring our users experience the benefits of NDI 6. Simultaneously, we are actively developing new products that embrace the cutting-edge remote connectivity features enabled by NDI 6, allowing the users to route sources anytime, anywhere, and record effortlessly.”
Judy Zuo, Vice General Manager, Kiloview
“NDI has always wowed users with continuous innovation, and with HDR support, NDI 6 promises, yet again, to bring significant change to the ecosystem. This addition will give content creators amazing new ways to tell their stories. For Vizrt, this advancement allows us to expand our NDI portfolio products to truly get the most out of this technology. We’re excited about how NDI 6 will continue to enhance Vizrt products and solutions, and we’re sure our users will be too.”
Christopher McLendon, Senior Product Manager, Vizrt
Thank you for connecting with NDI.
